Jersey Milk Bar

Without consultation this is the colour that ended up on the wall to replace that ghastly yellow. This colour I can "accept". The new year will bring decisions around new railings, mouldings, baseboards, carpets, etc. All in good time. We had a wonderful Christmas...everything came together in the last moments. Peace & Happiness abounded.

Getting the Room Ready For Christmas Is On Hold

The snow is finally here! Lots of it! DH is out early putting the tractor to use. It's the inaugural snow run for this tractor. Hopefully it will clear the way for vehicles to get up and down the driveway. Right now I'm stuck at the bottom but there's still 13 hours before I head out to work.

And Then This Happened on Day 13

I'm at a loss for words. This colour choice came from my other half. There's been no formal discussion as to whether it stays or goes.

Day 12 by the Calendar

It's a perfect shade of cream.......not the beige/grey tone that's on the chip. Looks perfectly normal. Very clean and fresh. Through conversations it has been mentioned that perhaps the yellow tone leading to the shade of cream came about from the original blue paint underneath altho the wall had been primed. It's not a colour I can't live with. It's just not what we were expecting.

Delightful Diversion

All plans to do Christmas shopping, more painting, etc. went out the window when this little diversion showed up at the door for a visit! And just in time to attend a 50th birthday party for her great-aunt (no pic as I forgot my camera!). No one knew her and Daddy were arriving in town. It was a huge surprise for us all! Not an altogether happy photo as Maddie was trying on a Christmas dress that we had dashed out to purchase. It was "itchy" and she doesn't like dresses at the best of times. It's a good thing the shoulders kept sliding down or she would have had to put up with wearing this for her Christmas photo and for our Christmas Eve party. Lucky girl! Dress slacks and a pretty blouse is the next option.

Day Umm.....Lost Track

Sanding the Drywall........BIG dusty mess!!!

December Photo Album - Day Five

Nothing happening in here today. The real world work day was booked off so that work could continue on the homefront. Looks dark in there today and I see no one working. Contractors!!!! Enjoy the funny!

December Photo Album - Day Four

DH states this beam has always bugged him. He thinks it's crooked. So he's going to change that and make it nice and straight/flat. A little mud, a little sanding, probably more mud and more sanding. I think I'll leave the Christmas ornaments in the box for a little while longer.

December Photo Album - Day Three

A Lesson In Corner Beads.......If a corner bead is not installed properly it becomes a type of Homes on Homes situation. The corner beads in this room were installed the full length of the wall. After new construction a home "settles" in. With the corner beads being too long and settling going on....cracks appeared in the wall. Hubby had to hammer out the drywall, cut off the corner beads, scrap off the drwyall mud where the crack had formed, then remud prior to the next stage of painting. The concept of "let's paint the living room" has taken on a whole new meaning for me. There's a lot more work that goes into this job that a TSP wash/sanding and rolling on the paint.

December Photo Album - Day Two

The feature wall was prepped - popped drywall plugs repaired, wall sanded, more cutting in done and the first coat of the carefully deliberated chosen paint went on. Hmmm....not as dark as we thought it would be. Okay...so let's try a second coat and see what happens. Hmm....still not dark enough. Back to the drawing board. This will not be the feature wall as The Man is not going to paint it again. We pick out other walls to paint a darker colour and move on. Baseboard gets ripped up. Framing around one window gets torn off. Framing around a door is gone. The handrail leading downstairs is gone. Baseboard heaters disconnected and whisked away. The Man says, "Start picking out new baseboard heaters, switch plates, railings, and carpeting". Hmmmm...I thought we were just going to paint???? Do you realize what the date is? How am I going to get my decorations up??? We have guests coming from out-of-town for Christmas????? What are you thinking???? Okay....so guests means son and family but still....

Why these still photos with nothing happening and no one doing anything? Because The Man says he needs a night off to clear out room in The Workshop so he can start making the baseboards.

This will be a very interesting Christmas :D

December Photo Album - Day One

December Picture Postings will be about getting ready for Christmas....putting up decorations, making gifts, wrapping presents, seeing friends.
We start here with Day One of December - Renovations!
I'm going to cheat a bit here b/c painting started a week ago. First the cutting in around the ceiling. Then the nasty chore of painting the ceiling. I won't post a picture of what this guy looked like after. Scary! When the project was first discussed the idea was to have the painting completed in time for the lady of the house to start decorating the railings Dec 1st.
